Why Your Hair Still Feels Dirty After You Wash It

Have you ever washed your hair… and it still feels off?

Like you did everything right.

You shampooed. You conditioned. You even took your time.

And then you blow dry it and think…

Why does this still feel heavy?

Why is it flat at the root?

Why is it not doing what I want it to do?

You’re not crazy. And no, it’s not your shampoo.

Here’s the part nobody really explains…

Your hair holds onto everything.

Dry shampoo. Oils. Leave-ins. Heat protectants.

Hard water. Sweat.

Product buildup. Even pool chemicals and salt from the beach.

And over time, all of that sits on your hair and your scalp.

So, when you wash your hair, your shampoo is basically trying to clean through a layer of buildup first… instead of actually getting to your hair.

Which is why it can feel like you just washed it… but it’s still not right.

This is where Pretreat comes in

This is the step most people are missing.

Before you even get in the shower, you spray it through your hair and let it sit for a few minutes.

What it’s doing is breaking down everything sitting on your hair so when you do wash… your shampoo can actually do its job.

Not harder. Just correctly.

Here’s how I actually use it at home

I don’t overcomplicate it.

I start at my roots and really focus there first. I’ll spray enough where it can kind of work its way down a little bit. Not soaking, just enough to start breaking everything up at the scalp.

Then I go through the rest of my hair and lightly mist it through the mid-lengths and ends. I’m not drenching it. Just making sure everything has a little bit on it.

Then I let it sit.

At least 10 minutes. Sometimes 20 if I get distracted, which happens more than I’d like to

Here’s exactly how I use it in real life so you can see what I mean.

When I reach for it the most

After the pool

Because even though the water looks clean, those chemicals sit on your hair and will mess with your color over time

After the beach

Saltwater will dry your hair out fast and leave it feeling rough

When my hair just feels off

Flat, heavy, not styling right, not holding anything

Most of the time it’s not your products failing you.

It’s that they’re trying to work through buildup.

What you’ll notice when you start using it

Your hair feels lighter

Your roots actually lift again

Your blow dries last longer

Your products start working better

It’s not that you suddenly found better products.

It’s that your hair is finally clean enough for them to work.

Don’t overthink it

You don’t need to use this every time you wash your hair.

Think of it as a reset.

Something you reach for when your hair isn’t doing what it normally does.

If your hair has been feeling off lately and you can’t figure out why, this might be the missing piece.

If you want help figuring out how to use it or if it’s even right for your hair, I’m always happy to walk you through it.

Because when your hair isn’t cooperating, it’s frustrating… especially when you feel like you’re doing everything right.

This is something I use behind the chair all the time when clients tell me their hair just isn’t working like it used to.
